Material Options

The shingle can be made in copper, aluminum or zinc.
  • Copper is the most expensive and longest lasting and most elegant of all roofing metals. They contain a minimum of 65 % recycled content and 100% recyclable. They are widely used in Europe, particularly for flashing and gutters and roofing in general. Copper is catching on in the United States.
  • Zink is another natural product that is long lasting but not as long as copper. It is durable and it is a lighter gray color.
  • Aluminum is a lightweight and durable product. Aluminum is also 100% recycled content and 100% recyclable. It is one of the greenest roofing products on the market today.

Integrated nail flange makes the roof stronger. Clips are not part of the shingle. The flange is and makes the roof stronger. Disengagement or failure is less likely with an actual component (nail flange) rather than a separate component or piece (clip).

Production is labor intensive and time consuming with more waste due to the shape and diamond design. Rectangle shingles are easier to manufacture but do not present the uniqueness and beauty of diamond shingles.
